On March 15th Leominster School Superintendent Paula Deacon announced that “ The Leominster Public Schools will be closed Monday, March 16 through Friday March 27th.” This is due to the spreading of coronavirus (COVID-19). The corona virus has reached Massachusetts with 45 confirmed cases of COVID-19, along with 119 presumptive positive cases of COVID-19, making a total of 164 cases according to mass gov.

Leominster High School has taken the precautionary measure to provide that everybody’s health and general safety is okay. This virus has affected our community as a whole. The schools are being cleaned and disinfected, while students will work online on packets given out by teachers.

The CDC recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the U.S.

One major concern is for the seniors at Leominster High, as well as the spring sports season and other possible events such as prom or even graduation.

Lacrosse, tennis, baseball/softball, volleyball, and cross country tryouts have all also been extended two weeks as individuals need to isolate themselves rather than being in large groups.

All we can do is keep an open mind and make sure that everybody stays healthy without putting others at risk.

Although this is a new uprising problem, we still do not know how severe it will become. As of right now, all Leominster Public Schools, along with many more schools from different districts are closed for 2 plus weeks for deep cleaning and to help stop the spread of the virus.

By waiting out this virus the goal is for the community to keep everybody as safe as possible.
