School Closing Extended to May 4th By Governor. Questions Abound.
March 27, 2020
On Wednesday March 25, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker extended the statewide school closure until May 4.
This move practically brings an end to the 19’-20’ school year.
For Seniors, this would leave them with less than a month of school and it leaves freshmen through juniors with a month and a half.
When checking with students, the big concern at this point is what will happen to grades? Will the district pass everybody, as the online work assigned cannot be graded, or will the state change that rule? Or will graduation be dependent on currently recorded grades?
Maybe implementing grades along with the work in hopes of finishing off third and fourth term with a grades is another option that may be explored.
The state is currently deciding such questions.
This pandemic leaves questions in everyone’s heads, student or not. But so far no answers.
One can only hope that this chapter in our lives is closed soon.
As new information comes in, the staff at The Devil’s Advocate will keep you updated.

There have been so many good questions brought up during this time of much transition. My hope is that students are checking in with their teachers each school day and doing their assignments to receive credit. I also hope that if students are responding to these requests, they will be either promoted or graduated as a reward for their great effort during this emotionally draining time. We all need to try to be hopeful when experiencing a crisis such as COVID19. Best wishes!
