Without a doubt, one thing all staff and students at Leominster High School can agree on is that the parking situation is a nightmare.
For many years, Leominster High School has received complaints about their awful parking lot, but have yet to do anything to solve the issue.
Frequent crashes in the parking lot, students being late to class due to lack of parking, and numerous announcements interrupting class when cars need to be moved are just a few of many issues surrounding the parking at Leominster High School.
The main issue is the high number of crashes in the parking lot. LHS Senior, Lucas Miranda shares his experience being in a crash. “My car got fully rammed when I was trying to exit,” Miranda said. “Horrible experience, never again.”
Shannon Smith, a senior at LHS describes the frustration when students hit parked cars, and drive off. She explained that this is an often occurrence because the spaces are far too small.
Staff shared similar opinions as the students. Leominster High School teacher Nicole Harris said, “ I think it has been a disaster for the last 10 years, which is when I also went here.”
Next, teacher Steve McCaughey told us about the number of crashes he’s seen take place in the parking lot. “I have witnessed several accidents and heard of many more,” he said.
Smith and McCaughey both had a similar concern. Smith believes our education may be affected by a lack of sleep due to waking up extremely early to secure a parking spot for the day.
“It’s challenging,” McCaughey said. “I know I have to get here early to beat all the kids to the good parking spots.”
