The Leominster High School Baseball program is about to enter its 2025 season, with tryouts beginning this week.
This program lost strong talent with the class of 2024 gone, including Angel Baez, Zackary Casey, Nicholas Massa, Domenic Swaine, and Jacob Paskell.
This season’s seniors – Alexander Coco, Evan Frick, Nolan Tetreault, Anthony Wozniak, Carson Wilbur, and Reece Lora – are ready to step up and compete for one last time in a Leominster uniform.
When asked about his hopes for this season, Head Coach Richard Barnaby said, “I expect all of the kids to step up this year. I hold high standards for them, and they hold high standards for themselves.”
This group of athletes has high team and individual goals for this upcoming season.
Senior Alex Coco, when asked about his goals, said, “Individually, I want to have a better season at the plate and shoot for a CMASS MVP. Team goals would just be to have fun and work every day towards a state title.”
They all share similar goals and are willing to put in the work daily to get there.
This group of seniors takes pride in the culture that they’ve built over the last four years.
Senior Reece Lora talked strongly about his family culture, especially because he gets to play with his younger brothers, Rocky and Ricco Lora.
This season will be a special one because they are reaching for their 4th consecutive league championship and 3rd consecutive CMADA Championship.
In their high school careers, they have made it to the Elite 8, Sweet 16, and Final 4; this year setting their sights on winning a state championship.
When asked what the seniors are looking forward to, there were a variety of answers.
Reece said that he is looking forward to playing Oakmont, the reigning Division 4 State Champions, and expects that game to be a close match-up.
Anthony stated that he was excited about playing against Salem High, as that game takes place at Salem State University.
Nolan said that he is excited for the first game of the season.
Coach Barnaby stated, “I am the classic cliche coach who says one game at a time. The only game that matters to me is the next game. I always say there are no such things as big games because all games are big, therefore the only game that matters is the next one.”
Their first game is Friday, April 4, at Westboro High School, and their home opener is on Wednesday, April 9, against Algonquin.
This talented team, with all of its competitive baseball players, is thrilled about this season and very confident in how they will perform.
