With Infinity War Marvel Continues to Outdo Themselves

Nicolas Malm, Reporter

There is no denying Marvel Studios’ success with all of their blockbuster superhero films that they have released over the past ten years. As their cinematic universe took off back in 2008 with the release of the very first Iron Man film, fans were soon hinted that there would be the formation of Marvel’s most iconic superhero team known as The Avengers.

Since then the wait for Avengers: Infinity War has been the primary focus in which this entire universe was leading to. With hype and anticipation this great, it can be worrisome to think that this movie couldn’t possibly live up to all the expectations.

However, it managed to do exactly that and even more.

Avengers: Infinity War, directed by the Russo brothers, is a film that fulfills all expectations and includes more than could have ever been expected.

The film revolves around the power crazy Thanos (played by Josh Brolin). He is a massively strong alien ruler who has the goal of obtaining all six infinity stones in order to gain complete power in all the universe to wipe out half of the population and to be the most powerful specimen to ever exist. I know.. It’s a lot to take in.

Marvel has been clever enough to hint at this movie constantly throughout its previous films and they pulled it off perfectly. The movie’s plot center on Thanos’s attempts to get all six infinity stones and the Avengers’ attempts to stop him.

On that note, it is specifically the extremely large cast of characters in this film that help make it so incredible. Original Avengers such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) finally have the chance to see them interact with the newer characters who have joined more recently. These characters include Spider-man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Star Lord (Chris Pratt), and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).

These interactions make for a very entertaining, and at times, humorous scenes – all while the different characters manage to stay true to themselves as they are put in these new circumstances.

Fans finally get to see the day they’ve been dreaming of when the founding Avengers finally meet the Guardians of the Galaxy…and it is awesome!

Another aspect that this film completely hit out of the park was the screen time for each character. It would be reasonable to worry about jamming this many heroes into a film and thinking that it wouldn’t work very well due to the fact that there would be so much to incorporate. This has been attempted by many films in the past and most have failed. However, Marvel had the perfect ingredients to give the correct amount of screen time to each character in the sake of the plot and for the fans.

Every hero in this film has their special “moment of glory” that will keep fans satisfied, but at the same time it gives fans a great developmental arch for the newly incorporated Thanos in order to understand his drives and motivations as a villain.

In a film with this huge of a cast and story, it is important to have a three dimensional villain that viewers can feel for and understand, and with the amazing development for Thanos in this film, fans will not only feel for and understand him, they will also genuinely fear him as well.

As to be expected from a Marvel film, this movie also has fantastic graphics and imagery, along with some of the greatest action sequences and fight scenes ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Another factor that makes this movie even greater, is that it dives directly into the story from the first scene and sets the stakes immediately. Since it has been built up through the other films over the past ten years, there was no need to waste time for build-up, it just dives right in, and it is epic!

With the return of all our favorite heroes, and a frightening yet sincere and understandable villian, it is a recipe for a fantastic superhero film!

I rate this film a five out of five stars and highly recommend any superhero fan, or anyone who truly enjoys an epic, fun, and thrilling movie to go and see it immediately. You will not regret seeing this film. I promise that you will love it infinitely.
