The Leominster Girls Flag Football Team won the State Championship at Gillette in the league’s inaugural year.

Like the boys’ football teams, the girls stepped onto the field and into Leominster history, by bringing a state championship to LHS.

Earlier in the season, Captain Kali Reed predicted the team’s chance of success.

“I felt confident that we were going to have a successful season…we work very well together as a team.”

The girls beat St. Mary’s in the Championship game, a team they lost to earlier in the year.

At that time, Melina Montalvo, who is one of Leominster’s primary scorers said, “It felt terrible to lose, but at least it wasn’t in the championship, good competition. We will get them next time I promise you that.”

And that they did.
