Two Special Students Honored by Football Team on Senior Night

The Story Behind the Photo

On Friday, October 20, 2023, the Leominster Blue Devil’s Football team celebrated their seniors at their senior night game against Shrewsbury High School. There were 2 seniors who were not there.  Jadon Etheart and Edward Wayland.

Jadon Etheart passed away as an eighth grade student at Sky View Middle School, and Edward Wayland passed away as a freshman.

The mothers of the seniors made posters for their sons, and ensured that when the seniors took the field, their boys would be represented.

Senior captain Tyler Witzgall said it was important for the team to acknowledge their lost teammates and, “to honor in the senior night that they never got the opportunity to have.”

Tyler said, “Jadon’s mother was there and it was nice to have her walk out with the team.”

The team pulled out a 48-26 win over Shrewsbury.  Perhaps they had a few guardian angels cheering them on.

As the team takes the field on senior night, two students were honored. Jadon Etheart was represented with a poster. Edward Wayland’s jersey #70 was carried in by  Captain Tyler Witzgall.

Victoria Miele, Reporter
Hello, my name is Victoria Miele and I am a senior at LHS! This year I am in Journalism 2. This summer I attended the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in Washington D.C. where I was able to meet journalists working on Capitol Hill, as well as tour the Capitol Building, and sit in the National Press Club and listen to credited reporters speak about their jobs and day to day lives. Throughout the year I play volleyball, tennis and I snowboard, but I love to read and write. I also work as a Personal Care Assistant for a young girl with SMA and I am a member of student government for the class of 2024, NHS, and I am the Vice President of Best Buddies. My favorite places to be are the library, my church, or playing volleyball with my friends. I am thrilled to be participating in this class and I look forward to the work we will be doing this school year!
