Leominster High’s 2024 MCAS scores reveal a mix of progress and challenges, particularly when compared to statewide performance. The data shows 10th-grade English, Math, and Science scores in 2024, and shares how they compare to other schools and the entire state.
Leominster exceeded the State average on the Science MCAS with 12% of students exceeding expectations, and 48% meeting expectations. Comparing this to the state average of 12% of students exceeding expectations and 37% meeting expectations, we are slightly ahead in Science.
English is where we start to fall behind, with 11% of students exceeding expectations and 40% meeting expectations. The state beats us by 3% with 14% of students statewide exceeding expectations and by 3% again meeting expectations with Leominster at 40% and the state at 43%.
Leominster’s biggest deficit was on the MCAS Mathematics. LHS has 5% exceeding expectations, compared to 12% at the state level. LHS also had 33% meeting expectations, 1% less than the state.
Subgroups were a mixed bag. Some were on par with the state, some below, and in Science’s case, some well above.
In the subgroup High Needs for English, we have 5% of high needs students exceeding expectations, which aligns with the state’s 5%. Meanwhile, 29% of the school’s high needs students are meeting expectations, while the state has 32% meeting expectations. In Mathematics, the school is 1% less than the state, with 3% of high need students Exceeding Expectations. LHS is also 3% less than the state in meeting expectations of high-need students at 20%. In Science, we exceed the state by 2% with 6% of high need students Exceeding expectations, and 37% are Meeting expectations, which is 12% higher than the state in terms of High needs students.
In another subgroup for low-income students in ELA, had 1% less of low income students exceeding expectations than the state at 5%. LHS had 31% of low-income students meeting expectations, which was 1% lower than the state. In Mathematics, LHS has 3% of low-income students exceeding expectations, while the state has 4%. LHS has 21% of low-income students meeting expectations, while the state has 23%. In Science, the school is on par with the state in exceeding expectations with 4%. LHS has 11% more low-income students meeting expectations than the state, at 36%.
Overall, the information is reassuring for Science results, and the other results may have been lower because students knew the results didn’t count toward graduation.
