Student athletes at Leominster High School may soon see major changes to where they practice as the school plans to open a new on-campus athletic field, according to Athletic Director David Palazzi.
Palazzi said the new field will make after-school practices much more convenient for athletes who currently have to travel to Doyle Field. Many students now rely on rides or the field bus to get there, but the new facility will allow teams to directly practice on campus.
“Having a field here means students can stay after school and go straight to practice instead of finding a ride to Doyle.”
The project will include a regulation eight-lane track, giving the school’s track and field program a proper space to practice and host competitions. Currently, the team must use other facilities because the school does not have a proper track.
“This will give our track athletes the opportunity to train and compete on a regulated track right at their own school.” Palazzi said.
The new complex will also allow multiple teams to practice at the same time. In the past, teams often had to split practice time or travel to other off-campus locations, such as Game On in Fitchburg, due to limited space.
According to Palazzi, the additional field space will make scheduling practices easier, and will allow more teams to stay on campus after school.
Below is the plan for the athletic field. It will also include approximately 150 parking spaces and should be open by Fall 2026.
