On May 8 and 9, the Leominster High School Theater Company brings an all-new production to the stage: Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. Known for its fast-paced format and unpredictable nature, the show highlights improv theatrical techniques.
Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind is a collection of short plays performed in a race against the clock, with the cast attempting to complete 30 scenes in 60 minutes. Each performance is slightly different, as the audience plays a role in selecting the order of the scenes. Under the direction of Andrea Mastroianni, the LHS Theater Company has embraced the challenge of balancing quick transitions, sharp comedic timing, and meaningful storytelling.
Actor Nathan Daniels shared insight into the rehearsal process. “The rehearsal process has been an absolute joy with many challenges,” Nathan said. “This show is so different, and with that comes learning. As someone who has done over 22 shows, I have never quite done one like this. The LHSTC rarely includes audience interaction, and in my time there has been none. So, getting to be able to do that for the first time is so fun, but scary too. All of that being said, the community we are building with each other is something so special — we are just enjoying each other’s company on stage!”
With dozens of scenes to rehearse, students must quickly shift between characters. From adjusting and revising scenes to coordinating technical elements like lighting and sound cues, every member of the company contributes to the production’s unique energy.
As opening night approaches on Friday, May 8th, excitement continues to build among cast, crew, and the LHS community. The production offers a new kind of theater experience, one that is interactive, fast-moving, and full of surprises. The show will be performed on Friday, May 8 at 6 p.m. in the LHS Auditorium, and on Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m..
With another ambitious show underway, the LHS Theater Company continues to showcase its creativity and dedication, adding another dynamic production to this year’s lineup of performances.
