It’s that time again when another Marvel movie has hit the theater. This time, we have Brie Larson starring in The Marvels, a movie about three superheroes: Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel. They take on a new evil threatening a Kree revolution. Will they be able to take down this new evil?
Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels follows the ongoing chain of events in the MCU that creates a “Cinematic Universe” where stories connect into one big film. After the events of Avengers Endgame. Did this movie live up to previous expectations?
The answer to that question is a definite “No.” After watching the movie in theaters and experiencing it on IMAX (doesn’t really change anything) I can confidently say that the movie was a complete and utter mess and here is why.
From the start, the movie was doomed to fail. After many reshoots and major edits and rewritings of the script, the movie that was supposed to be a sequel to Captain Marvel, had the date pushed back nearly 4 times.
The action was okay, though nothing special. The main villain is forgettable despite being the main villain, and most of the characters are jokes. They are nothing but shells of their former selves.
The movie overall had me questioning what I was even doing in the theater and why I didn’t go watch another movie. It was a mess that probably would have been better if it was scrapped for something completely different.
It is not surprising that The Marvels’ box office opening weekend was deemed the “worst MCU’s ever had.”
I would not recommend this movie to go see. I should not be more excited for the movie review than the actual film.
