MOVIE REVIEW: The Batman

MOVIE REVIEW: The Batman

Estefano Nario, Reporter

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the main villain, the Riddler.

The movie takes these characters and the actors give us a performance we have yet to see in previous iterations of the characters in other films. It is not an origin story, however it is a look into the second year of Bruce Wayne becoming the Batman and focusses on his early days of the caped crusader.

The movie takes a darker tone than previous films and has an eerie feel to it. Think of it like a horror movie with Batman., filled with tension.

The movie is set as a serial killer starts terrorizing the city of Gotham and leaving cryptic messages and riddles for The Batman to solve. This is the 2nd year the city of Gotham has had The Batman so the police are still not yet fond of him. Throughout the movie you see how The Batman is still getting used to this responsibility that he’s put on himself and how he still has yet to fully understand what it means to be a hero.

Robert Pattinson is an excellent Batman. He takes the character on and puts his own stamp on the role. In my opinion, he is the best Batman.

Robert Pattinson’s co-star Zoe Kravitz plays her role very well and gives Batman a partner/love interest throughout the movie but doesn’t over do it and still keeps it interesting.

The movie has great accompanying villains like the Penguin played by Colin Farrell, and a couple others that I won’t spoil for you.

The movie has great action set pieces and really tries to use more practical effects rather than CGI.  They balance the movie well with both.

The movie does well at deceiving you and having you thinking what’s really going on, and has a good story with pretty much every scene including the Batman and or Bruce Wayne ( Batman’s identity).

This truly is The Batman’s movie and Robert Pattinson plays the part so well. Though I admit I never doubted it for a second. Many people had their opinions about Pattinson playing this role, but he takes on this persona so well and really brings the character to life.

This is by far my favorite Batman movie. I recommend you go watch it.   9/10 stars.
