Leominster High School’s Girls’ Soccer team took the win after facing Tyngsborough High School in their Senior Night game on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at 6:00pm.
Leominster’s team came out on top with a 2-0 win. The first goal was scored by LHS Freshman Tori Swift, and the second came from LHS Senior Ava Mazzaferro, scoring a header off of a corner kick, both assisted by LHS Senior Sasha Sabourin.
After earning the win, the team celebrated their 7 seniors, Ava Mazzaferro, Sasha Sabourin, Amara Francis, Kaylah Creaven, Sydney Creaven, Molly Arseneau, and Adalie Boisselle with gifts and food.
The LHS Senior Girls Soccer players have had their ups and downs throughout their high school soccer careers, starting with having 3 different coaches in the span of 4 years.
During their freshman year, Coach Kate Gingras had been the team’s coach for only 2 years before receiving a promotion and becoming Vice Principal at Johnny Appleseed Elementary School.
Coach Todd Turcotte stepped in, staying for a mere 2 seasons until he moved on just before the beginning of this season.
Now, in the girls’ senior year, Coach Jensen Perez took the role in leading their team to an overall 8-5-5 record.
LHS Senior Ava Mazzaferro was a freshman on varsity and has been a key contributor to this squad for the last 4 years.
Playing in the centerback position, she showed intense leadership and determination. She believed their season was better than expected and the team had their best record now than in the past few years.
Ava said, “We had a winning record, over 500, and we have a play-in game for states.”
She then said, “I’m sad that it’s over, but also happy, moving on to bigger and better things with club [soccer] coming up.”
Ava already has big plans for the future, being committed to Assumption University to play Division II soccer.
LHS Senior Amara Francis showed passion and support throughout this season. She believed that the season coming to a close is bittersweet.
“It feels weird, these four years went by super fast. It makes you feel proud of how far you’ve come,” said Amara.
Her plans for the future are undecided, but Amara said, “I want to go to a school in New England, majoring in marine biology, maybe forensic science.”
She chose not to pursue soccer next year, although she would love to play for a club team at her future college.
LHS Senior Sasha Sabourin has played a large role for the girls’ soccer team throughout her high school career. Along with playing soccer, Sabourin is a student in Leominster High School’s Center for Technical Education Innovation (CTEI), and is focused on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, also known as HVAC.
The only word she could muster up when asked about how she is feeling that it was senior night was, “Sad.” She then said,“ We won a lot more games than I thought we would.”
Sasha plans to play Division III soccer at Salem State next year.
All 7 of the seniors have grown up playing soccer together, and it is truly heartwarming. Although they are going down different paths next year, they will never forget the friendships and lifelong connections they have made.
