The school chess club tournament completed its final matches this week after several tough competitions.
The club’s most-awaited event of the year brought together players from all skill levels to participate in the competition. The athletes advanced through multiple competition rounds that required them to demonstrate their strategic thinking abilities while outwitting opponents.
LHS Freshman Samuel Alves achieved third place in the competition. His performance showed that he could maintain his game level while facing tough situations. His competition path included multiple intense battles, which he fought well, until the tournament’s last phases.
LHS Freshman Grayson Goodwin secured second place due to his outstanding performance in showing his ability to think tactically while attempting to win during the game. His semifinal performance demonstrated his exceptional abilities, but it was ultimately his opponent who came out on top.
LHS Senior Nicolas “Nico” Newell emerged as the tournament champion after winning first place through his execution of multiple difficult matches. Nico maintained his exceptional concentration and tactical understanding throughout the tournament.
The club members came to see his final match against Grayson, which became the most important battle of the tournament. When asked, he had this to say about it, “It was hard fought,” said Nico, “but overall it was I, who came out victorious.”
The event received successful feedback from both participants and organizers. The chess club event generated excitement, which resulted in multiple students seeking to join the club.
