Contributing to Leominster High School’s art and school community is the Sewing and Craft Club.
Sewing and Crafts club is where the crafts are. Anything you want to make in a 3-D medium can be done, from sewing, crocheting, and knitting, to embroidery and beadwork.
LHS Art Teacher Linnea Romhanyi is the club’s advisor. She took over the club after her predecessor retired.
Romhanyi shared how she teaches students who don’t have previous experience in sewing how to sew. “Generally, when they come in and they don’t have any sewing skills, I have a small project that I start them off (with) so they could learn at least three different sewing stitches and it also teaches them how to sew on a button,” said Romhanyi.
This club is also a safe space for those who need a dedicated time and place to practice their hobbies.
LHS Senior and Club President Rebecca Lee shared her feelings on the club.
“It’s a very independent club, but occasionally we do all these community projects, like this quilt we’re making, where everyone gets involved,” said Rebecca. “And I like both equally as much. I like the freedom to have a space and dedicated time to focus on my hobbies, like crocheting, but it’s also fun to come together and work on bigger projects I wouldn’t be able to do on my own.”
Sewing and Craft Club is a great way to express your creativity.
“So it’s really free and like, you can basically do whatever you want,” said club member LHS Sophomore Lola Couture. “Like there’s like no rules to it. So if I’m like, oh, I want like this like coin purse, I can like make it in sewing club.”
Romhanyi added, “Nobody needs to feel like they have to attend every single meeting, we’re not that kind of club…basically if you want to learn how to do something, we can teach you, guide you, support you, and it’s a great community.”
The club meets every Tuesday after school in E306.
