Psychology Club is just one of many clubs LHS offers.
They meet every 2 weeks and it is a place where students can relax and take their minds off school. They explore how the mind works while playing brain games and watching psychology-related movies with friends.
LHS Science Teacher, Madison Tew took over as the advisor for the Psychology club following the retirement last year of the club’s former advisor, Marybeth Maynard.
“I majored in psychology in college so it seemed like the right next step,” Tew explained.
Ms. Tew is one of our many wonderful science teachers here at LHS, she teaches a PLTW course, Human Body Systems (HBS) and Biology. She has always had a passion for science as well as psychology.
“I love Psychology and as a science teacher, I want to spread more awareness about how psychology is a science, not just a social study.”
Her main goal is to make the club easy for students after the long school day. All activities were all planned out from the beginning of the year by students in the club.

“My main goal is for students to have a safe place when they feel welcomed and participate in some easy going activities. I want to make it enjoyable for the students, rather than forcing them to do things I want to do. We brainstormed a list of activities at the start of the year and I’ve been selecting from that list since. Most activities are good for the brain, brain breaks from the school day.”
The club is always looking for new members. It is a great way for students to take their mind off school and hang out with their friends while doing fun activities.

“Yes, it’s a great way to meet new people and an excellent way to decompress from the day,” said Tew.
The club meets up bi-weekly on Thursdays in Ms. Tew’s class, A102.
